Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Clinical Nutritionist ?

Clinically trained Nutritionists have been formally recognised as Health Professionals via section 42AA of the Australian Government Australian Therapeutic Goods Act since 1990, and hold Private Health insurance rebates with Clinical Nutrition recognising Private Health insurance funds.

Clinical Nutritionists (uniquely so in the dietary services space) have an independent prescribing capacity for complex nutritional supplementation for Clinical Nutrition/Nutritional Medicine purposes. Clinical Nutritionists bring a unique skillset to the dietary services space – namely their independent prescribing capacity, independent client assessment skill-set, and training in individualised preventative healthcare.

How can a Clinical Nutritionist help ?

A nutritionist can provide support for a wide range of issues, including weight issues, digestive health, hormonal health, immunity, chronic disease, allergies, nutritional deficiencies, special diets, dietary planning, sleep and mood, and overall general well-being, just to name a few.

Do Certified Practicing Nutritionists (CPNs) work with General Practitioners (GPs) (i.e. Medical Doctors), and can GPs refer to CPNs ?

The answer to both of these questions is Yes. CPNs work either independently or within multidisciplinary clinics, including alongside other allied health professionals and Medical Doctors. GPs are able to refer patients to a CPN – as they are able to refer to any allied health professional who holds expertise pertinent to their patient’s needs.
